Know Before You Go

Travel tips to help you prepare for your adventure.

Weather
Packing
  • Tulum is a hot, humid, tropical climate. The mornings and evenings are usually cooler, while the afternoons are quite hot. We highly recommend packing lightweight, breathable fabrics,
  • Sunscreen and bug spray are essentials!
  • Consider packing a reusable water bottle.
  • Check your excursions for any clothing or shoe requirements.
Preparing for the Flight
  • Entertainment: To pass the time while flying, consider downloading your favorite books, podcasts, music, movies, and shows to your device.
  • Snacks and Drinks: Pack a few of your favorite snacks and drinks for the flight, but be sure to check TSA guidelines before bringing any liquids through security.
  • Charge Up: Ensure all your devices are fully charged and charging cables are accessible in your carry-on.
  • Airline Confirmations: You will receive your flight information in an email as well as in your pre-trip box. Use your confirmation code to view your reservation on the airline’s website or app. There you may make itinerary changes and confirm your seats. You will be responsible for checking in to your flight online 24 hours prior to departure.
Travel Day
  • Airport Arrival Time: Most airports recommend arriving three hours prior to your scheduled departure time for international flights. When you arrive at the airport, proceed to your airline counter to provide proof of passport and travel documents, as well as check your bags.

  • Transportation: You will be responsible for transportation to and from your home airport. We will take care of your transportation to and from the Cancun International Airport regardless of your arrival day, so long as you are staying with us at the Hilton Tulum and booked through our registration site. You will be met by a representative holding a sign with the Precoa logo. They will direct you to pre-arranged vehicles that will take you to the resort. Boosters and car seats are not offered on our shuttles, and you may wish to pack one if you are traveling with small children. If you booked separate accommodation outside of the Hilton Tulum, you will be responsible for your own transportation.

  • Hotel Arrival: After a 70-90 minute drive from the airport, you will arrive at the Hilton Tulum, where you will be directed to check in with your passport and credit card. While your room has been pre-paid, a credit card will be required for incidentals. Check-in time is at 3:00PM, so if you arrive early, be sure to keep your swimsuit nearby to visit the pool until your room is ready! Your checked luggage will be stored and brought up to your room once available. Please keep any items you may need near you, including your passport, wallet, and medications.
Arriving in Mexico
  • Immigration: Upon deplaning, you will be directed to Immigration. There you will present your passport and/or travel visa, your boarding pass, and have your photo taken. Some officers may not speak English, but the process is very easy! If you choose to use the self-service kiosks, a receipt will print—keep it, as you’ll need it for check in at the hotel as well as at the airline counter when departing.

  • Baggage Claim and Customs: After clearing immigration, you will proceed to the baggage claim area to collect your luggage. If nothing needs to be declared, simply proceed through Customs and exit the terminal. If something is declared, expect a quick, courteous inspection.

  • Exiting the Airport: Once you’ve cleared customs, you’ll enter the arrivals hall. Avoid engaging with vendor solicitations and walk swiftly to exit the airport to your pre-arranged Precoa transportation located outside. When you exit the airport building via a glass door, you will be met by a representative, holding a sign with the Precoa logo and wearing a yellow Terramar shirt.
